DOOM: The Dark Ages is a prequel to id Software's modern DOOM reboot trilogy, set in a medieval-fantasy period of the Doom Slayer's backstory that predates the events of 2016's DOOM.
It shifts the series' combat rhythm toward a heavier, more melee- and shield-focused style compared to the fast, mobility-driven combat of DOOM Eternal, while keeping the series' signature aggressive pacing.
The medieval-fantasy setting brings new enemy and weapon designs built around that theme, including large-scale set-piece encounters not previously seen in the rebooted series.
It's included with Xbox Game Pass on day one and available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, continuing id Software and Bethesda's simultaneous-platform release approach for the series.
